A New Chapter for The Powell House Press
Changes coming in 2026
Starting January 2, 2026, The Powell House Press is transitioning to a primarily subscriber-supported model. My weekly column “This Week and Next” will remain free, along with select healthcare policy pieces, but most of my reporting and analysis will move behind the paywall.
Here’s what you need to know: Right now, an annual subscription costs just $35 (or $5 monthly). On January 2nd, that price increases to $50 annually ($8 monthly). If you’ve been considering subscribing, locking in the current rate means you’ll save $15 a year—permanently.
With 150,000 readers and growing, I’m investing more deeply in the investigative work and political commentary you’ve told me matters most. That means more time reporting, less time chasing clicks. It means stories that take weeks to develop, not hours. It means accountability and sharing with readers where I get my inforation - this is why I often cite references.
To help you decide, I’m temporarily unlocking my most-read pieces—both my all-time top 5 and my top 5 since launching on Substack. Consider this your chance to see what a subscription gets you.
Quality journalism isn’t free to produce. If you value the work, now’s the time to invest in it.
