Here was a man who had scaled every height American meritocracy could offer—Harvard undergraduate, Harvard Law, clerk to a Supreme Court justice, the first Hispanic Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. The golden boy of the Republican legal establishment, blessed with the kind of immigrant success story that politicians invoke in their most soaring speeches about American opportunity. His parents had fled Castro's Cuba with nothing; their son would become the 27th Secretary of Labor of the United States.

And then there was Jeffrey Epstein and Trump and Bondi - the career equivalent of a car pileup.
