The principles America was built upon-and now stands to lose.

In recent days, I’ve been deeply moved by the story of Alex Kristofcak, a former Assistant United States Attorney from the Southern District of New York, who was placed on administrative leave for expressing criticism of the current administration. His experience has struck a chord with me, not just because of the injustice he faced, but because his story embodies the very principles America was built upon-and now stands to lose.

Born in Czechoslovakia under communist rule, this man grew up witnessing firsthand the tactics of authoritarian regimes. He came to America seeking the freedom and opportunity that this nation has long symbolized to the world. As a gay immigrant, he found not just economic prosperity but the chance to live authentically. His journey led him from Wall Street to public service, motivated by a genuine desire to give back to the country that had given him so much.
