The latest target in this academic purge is the University of Maine System, which learned Tuesday that the USDA has abruptly “paused” nearly $30 million in critical funding — money that supports agricultural research, youth development, and assistance to struggling farmers. The timing is hardly coincidental, coming just weeks after President Trump publicly threatened Maine’s Governor Janet Mills with funding cuts during a contentious White House exchange over transgender rights.
